Business Name Registration

A business name must be registered with the relevant government department of the State or States in which you are doing business. To find out if a name is available and has not already been taken you should first search the National Names Index.

If the name is available an application must be made in each relevant State. Although this registration is a prerequisite for doing business it does not give any exclusive rights in respect of the name. To obtain comprehensive rights Australia-wide further domain name and trade mark applications must be made for the same name.

Business name registration has to be renewed on a regular basis by payment of annual fees.

IP First can assist you in the selection and registration of you business name.
